Your new dentures will continue to fit well and look great with a few simple steps. Here, our Fort St. John dentist shares some tips on how to care for your dentures.
Daily Cleaning
Dentures need to be cleaned every day, just like natural teeth.
A soft-bristle denture brush and water can be used to thoroughly brush and clean your dentures. Never use toothpaste on your dentures, it could damage them. While you're brushing your dentures, be sure not to bend any of the attachments, and take care to clean each area thoroughly.
Rinse your dentures with water after each meal to remove any small bits of food.
Soak Your Dentures Nightly
Soak your dentures each night to help to loosen the plaque and tartar. They will be easier to clean after soaking.
To keep your dentures in great condition, soak them nightly and brush them daily. It's important to remember that soaking your dentures is not a substitute for cleaning them!
Use Care with Your Dentures
Place a folded towel in the sink, (or on the bathroom vanity), whenever you're handling your dentures. The towel will act as a cushion and help to protect your dentures from being damaged if you accidentally drop them.
To prevent your dentures from drying out, soak them in water whenever you aren't wearing them.
If your dentures have metal attachments, do not use denture solutions. Denture solutions could tarnish the metal attachments.
Never use hot water to clean your dentures as the heat could cause your dentures to warp.
